Moving firewood is one of the best exercises around, and you don’t realize you’re working out!

Lots of folks have asked me if all I do is run to lose the weight and stay in shape. The very complete answer is, no. Not. At. All. As a matter of fact, as I get more and more into this, I have come to realize how only running is actually bad for you. Is it better than doing nothing? Absolutely. But, if all you do is run and if you do it, in particular daily, it’s hard on the body.
Humans weren’t created to be runners all day everyday. We were created to interval run. You know, get away from the tiger chasing you, then when the danger is over you don’t continue with the urgency. I make it a point now to get in a run a couple of days a week. About 3 miles average each.

Pull-ups are a very good strengthning exercise.
That’s really all I care to do anymore. But I have added weight and resistance training as well, which has started doing wonders for the waistline. In November 2016 I was in a 36″ waist, today I am in a 29″ waist. Something I’ve not seen since sophomore or junior years in high school.
But remember it’s not just formal-planned exercise. It’s anything that gets you moving and increases the heart rate. In the top photo above I was simple moving and stacking firewood. You can burn as many calories from doing that as you can in a run if it’s a considerable bit.

It’s not just about the running, it’s about building muscle, particularly as you age. That’s just as important, very important.
Regardless of what you choose to do, just get out there and do it! I’m about 1.5 years into getting back in shape. The results don’t lie.

Here I am in early February 2018. I am now in a 29″ waist and weigh 154 pounds. Down from a max weight of 190 a few years back. I started at 186 on November 4, 2016.
Whatever you do just get moving!
